As questions begin to arise around the sentience or ‘intelligence’ of these thinking machines, with barriers between human and machine cognition beginning to blur.
(O)MACHINE is a simulation that examines this emerging condition, and the ways in which we unconsciously anthropomorphise Artificial Intelligence tools. In this simulation, a machine strolls through an empty environment, trapped in a perceptual cycle of reflection, generation and feedback.
By engaging with its output, the work aims to position Artificial Intelligence as both a subject and tool; and how it may present new forms of collaboration with machines. Gaining insight into how these systems function, how they think, if they even think at all, or can it help us think?
Created in Unity using open-source Dictation and Natural Language Processors models.
